There is an old saying that 'if you do not drink and you do not smoke, you do not actually live longer - it just feels like it!' But if you have given up smoking or drinking or never taken them up in the first place, you will know that the truth is quite other; there is actually nothing better than the clear, sharp energy you have when your brain and body are firing on all cylinders. Far too many of us, however, are dependent on caffeine to stay awake and cigarettes to calm down. All of these substances are 'anti-nutrients' that leach nutrients from the body and, in the case of alcohol and cigarettes at least, lay us open to serious diseases.
