I am having difficulty getting pregnant. What kind of diet and supplements should i be on ?

No doubt you are aware of folic acid. However, folic acid is but one of several nutrients that maximise fertility and lower the risk of pregnancy problems. Folic acid is important because, along with vitamins B2, B6 and B12, it helps the body to methylate, a fundamental chemical process involved in building new cells. Women who have a high level of a protein in the blood called homocysteine are poor methylators, and are much less likely to conceive, and more likely to have miscarriages. For this reason have your homocysteine level checked. If it is high, take more of B vitamins, plus zinc. There are specific supplements designed to help maintain normal, healthy homocysteine levels.

Also vital are essential fats, especially the omega-3 fat DHA. This is found in wild salmon, herring, sardines and mackerel, and supports reproductive health in both men and women. It is also an essential nerve builder in the growing foetus.
