Do those antioxidant creams really stop you ageing?

Yes and no. Depending on the amounts of form of the antioxidant nutrients in them, they will slow down the ageing process of your skin. But do not compare the actual amounts, of say, vitamin E. For a cream to have any realy benefit it should provide at least 20mg per gram.

The actual ageing process of the body is to do with how perfectly your cells are replaced, since we are permanently renewing ourselves. The skin, for example, is completely new every 20 days. Antioxidants protect your DNA, the blueprint for new cells. That is why it is also important to eat foods rich in antioxidants. Doctors recommend supplementation an antioxidant complex everday that contains vitamin A and E, plus glutathione, which is the body's most powerful antioxidant.

B vitamins, especially B6, B12 and folic acid, also stop DNA from becoming damaged. A good wholefood diet plus a high-strength multivitamin is the best way to keep your Bs up. Strict vegetarian watch out. There is no B12 in vegetables. You need meat, fish, eggs, dairy produce or supplements to get enough B12. Your supplement should provide at least 10 mcg.
